Peran Media Lokal Dalam Mendorong Demokratisasi Di Era Otonomi Daerah

Abstract

The existence of local media as a local political subsystem requires strong professionalism and basic ideals. Without professionalism, it is not easy for the mass media to keep their trust from the public. As a business institution, local media must improve the quality of management to support the entire company and improve the welfare of workers. This article will elaborate on three related topics: theoretical observations of media relations, democracy, and processes towards local democratization; responding to regional autonomy, the role of local media in regional autonomy in mediating political leaders and constituents; and the importance of the role of local media in the democratization process in Indonesia, as well as to provide alternatives on how local media should be in the future, either as a democratic subsystem or as a pillar of industry.
